Cranial deformations assessed in pediatric physiotherapy

Cranial deformations are characterized by one or more abnormally flat areas on your child’s head. Since a newborn’s head is flexible, allowing for natural birth and rapid growth, it’s sometimes possible to observe asymmetry developing. In most cases, the head will naturally regain a symmetrical shape. However, if flattening persists around the age of 3-4 months, consulting a professional is recommended.

Among the types of cranial deformities, we mainly recognize :Cigonia | Center of expertise in perineal and pediatric rehabilitation | Children’s issues

Cranial deformation can be assessed and measured through physiotherapy and there are solutions available. Physiotherapy treatments, osteopathy and, if necessary, helmet use are your best allies in improving this deformation. In collaboration with EVO Laboratory, our pediatric physiotherapists are trained to take measurements needed to make a custom helmet for your child.

Research indicates that the best symmetry results can be achieved with early intervention. Therefore, acting quickly is advisable.

Children’s problems that can be treated with massage therapy

Massage for babies and children soothes the circulatory systems (blood, lymphatic, digestive, and respiratory), as well as the nervous system and balance centers (inner ear, brain). It strengthens the immune system and helps decongest sinuses by promoting the expulsion of mucus. It also relieves toothaches, certain forms of colic and constipation. Massage in young children develops trust between the baby and the adults who care for them, thus relieving stress. It also helps the baby sleep better.

Problems that can benefit from osteopathic treatment

Osteopathy facilitates the liberation of infants’ and young children’s bodies from the tissue and structural limitations enabling them to develop freely and regain balance and health.

The phenomenon of birth causes several force constraints on the small, still malleable body of the newborn. Whether for prevention or to help the baby overcome various discomforts related to its first weeks of life, osteopathy will accompany your little ones.

Testimonials

My little 7-week-old baby had plagiocephaly… Such a panic! I’m now in good hands and I’ve met an osteopath and a physiotherapist who have guided me through the exercises to do, the positions to adopt with my child and now I feel much better equipped to deal with this problem. I’m convinced that everything will return to normal, because I can already see an improvement. Thanks to my little mother’s heart!
